Happy Easter … Island!

By | April 17, 2014

icon-easter “Ye hear? Take the cursed letter to Easter Island for rich reward! Better yet, there’s fine ship for all! Besides, there be whispers about plenty o’ loot around Easter Island this time o’ year!” … Or so the legend goes. So, apart from having 50% discount sale, all players can now take on the Easter Island challenge, and get their hands on second to best WAR FRIGATE! Some devious and corrupted  son of a shipwright on that island will sell it to anyone for the reward. But that is not all! Any floating chests nearby will get you a thousand pieces of pure pirate gold! Happy Easter!

P.S.
Some devilish networking issues have been addressed (black screen anyone?) which are now (hopefully) gone forever.

The Easter Island update was a real farm-fest, with the repeatable quest and all that. The 120k quests are available everywhere now…is that a bug, or a feature?
I only started playing a week ago, so I still have many questions regarding the game, and believe there are many things I still don’t know about it. Although I did make it to the top 20 in such a short time, I believe it was due to the lack of players and not due to abundance of my skill. If you/we could make up a FAQ or a short guide of the game and it’s possibilities, it would be very useful.
At this point in the game, I have the best ship attainable (or at least I think I do…), so go around taking over towns, collecting points and money trying to get myself as high up in the Hall of Fame as possible…
To think about it, Sid Meier’s Pirates didn’t have much endgame up their sleeve either.

Few questions… do all players share the same map? Because when checking it, I see at most up to 5 players on it…and the HoM indicates atleast 500 (active?) people, so would really be expecting more, unless we play in separate instances.
If I attack and plunder a town belonging to the same faction as me, will there be any repercussions?
Can a fellow player from the same faction attack and sink me?

I think I have noticed some changes within the game. I would really appreciate if the website would give info when that happens, otherwise I just keep thinking I am losing my mind!

Now to give some propositions… it *is* very easy to make money in Seacraft. I would advise adding some money sink in this game. Maybe remove full repairs in free towns, otherwise they can just get plundered constantly (basically farmed) for loads of monies.

Some in-game menus should be added. Like, a list of all ships you own, and which one you want to be your flagship. So in case of accidentally buying another, but lousy ship, I could just click on that menu, and select to play another ship. I don’t think we need to have fleet like in Pirates!, with cargo hold being added with more ships…or can we? :)

Also, food could be added to the game? There already are in form of cargo, and that could stay, but there could be some regular edibles added to the game? Perhaps just called food, or Bread & Grog to make it more piratey? The bigger the ship, more food is consumed a day? Because a larger ship would require more crew, but I am guessing adding crew recruitment won’t be added to the game, and I am fine with that. Anyway, Bread&Grog could have a fixed price in all towns, buying or selling, and there should be infinite amount of it in each town. It should also be the priority food – in case of shortage, the crew could start chewing on pricey food!
Maybe new types of quests could be added? Like escorting ships and similar?

Oh yeah, cities and towns need to be overall stronger! I would advise to make the cities in home territories invincible? So Japanese cities in Japan would be untakable? Then again, since the era isn’t really set, we cannot determine which territories belong to whom and so on…so maybe this idea isn’t the best… Hey, I am just brainstorming ideas here! Maybe it gives you some insight and sparks an idea for a different feature or addition.

You really need to make a massive feature and balance update and then restart the game (giving all old players some bonus!). I really am enjoying this game too much! Yeah it resembles Sid Meier’s Pirates! a lot. I played and enjoyed the original (PC version) but I had spent countless hours on the remake (I was not even born when the C64 version came out!)

All great and valid points there and thanks for the feedback. There are so many things I would like to improve in this game, and I hopefully will at some point. But those may not come so quickly as you and I would like. :)

Sure undertandable. It is just, I had already adopted the game as my own now (as players/gamers usually do about great games), and would like to see it perfected.

I have had some questions earlier I would like answered, but you seem to have skipped them
    Copied from above:
“Few questions… do all players share the same map? Because when checking it, I see at most up to 5 players on it…and the HoM indicates atleast 500 (active?) people, so would really be expecting more, unless we play in separate instances.

I would just like to steal the thread to say sorry to the player I accidentally sunk. He was also my ally.
In my defence, his ship was very small, so I thought is just a random scurvy dog, and when I realised the mistake my cannon salvo was already half way there…

Which brings me to my idea to implement in the game: In-game messaging! Basically an MMO style map-wide messages, where you can talk with everyone online, and another slot reseved for your own faction? Basically for coordinating invasions and major assaults. I am guessing these two wouldn’t be *too hard* to implement, but a private messaging (player to play) might be harder, and could consume a lot of time compared to actual playing the game… Then there would also have to be more functions to implement, like ignore, friends list, and so on…. So, so far I am sticking with the first two (map-wide and faction-wide messaging!).

    Hope anyone even reads this
